Mine has some surface rust but not that bad. And it spends most of it's time in the garage.
My 02 Toyota 4runner has hardly any rust and it's been on the beach surfishing 70-80 times. But my friend's 01 Taco, the frame is just about rusted out.
It's all the cheap Chinese steel everyone uses now.
Your driveshaft looks terrible! Good luck.

You know...I read the title to this thread, and looked at the OP's pics. And thought "I see this all the time on new vehicles" I work at a body shop, and sometimes we remove the bed from the truck completely. So the entire frame is exposed, and there is always rust to some degree, So I do see this all the time...but, I just went out to check my 2010 STX...and nothing! Not a spot of rust. So...I don't know!!! Haha!!

I can tell you that while surface rust isn't horrible, once it pits that is it.

Did you ask for a coated under carriage. If so rust of any kind is unexceptable. Especially in areas with high salt content in the air or on roads.

OK-I knew you were from the South as soon as I read these posts. I didn't even have to look. Where I live there is constant salt on the road from November through April. The roads are salty wet every day. You cannot keep your vehicle salt free for one day unless you drive at night. I wash my truck once a week no matter what. You think that rust is bad? I will have to take pictures. There is hardly any black left on my suspension components. This is steel. This will happen. Very normal and nothing to get shook about. Everyplace you have rust is on steel components. Now if you had that kind of rust happening on the actual body of the vehicle, which would be a different story. The only part I hate about living where I live is all the salt crap they put on the roads. Sodium chloride is my pickups worst enemy and underneath it shows. Having said that it does not hurt the integrity of the frame at all. Just surface rust. Now overtime that will be a different story. But usually you can get a good 10 years out of a truck up here that is never washed. Sometimes longer. Otherwise after about 10 years the bodies start to rust out. Just something to think about.

This was taken the first week I had my truck. Surface rust. It's been there on every truck I've ever had.

Ford must have changed their drive shafts cuz mine still looks brand new. Zero rust and I'm I Canada so she sees quite a fluctuation in weather from snow, rain, heat and some times all in the same day lol. Some rust on your steel parts as stated is normal. The rust shown in the pics looks to be a bit much for a brand new truck IMO. I'd get the dealer to check it out and maybe get a free undercoat out of it ( one can hope). Shouldn't cause any issues but rust is never good and you definitely don't wanna see it like that on a brand new truck. Good luck

My 2011 is rusty like that. I don't recall my 2010 being like that. I would have noticed it for sure.
