Default Rubbing only in 4wd?

Sorry guys - I tried to search for this, but didn't find much.

Can somebody help me understand why my 20x9's with 305/55/20 BFG All Terrains never rub in 2wd, but seem to bury themselves into the wheel liners and possibly something else (seems to really fight rolling when I attempt to turn) in 4wd?

When I get on my hands an knees, I can see that the tire hits the fender liner more in 4wd, but am not noticing rub marks on anything else.

Does suspension height change? Is something else engaging that changes where the hub sits in relation to the fender well?

WTH is going on? lol... It's making me feel really dumb that I don't know this / can't figure it out easily.

Unless you are on slippery/loose ground your front tires will bind up when turning in 4 wheel drive, will sound like rubbing. I even get it sometimes when there's 4" of snow on the ground. When turning in 4x4 one tire will spin faster than the other and when on solid ground will feel like breaks are on and will hear what sounds like rubbing noise (when turning)

Really?! So, that herky jerky motion is basically because the front end is acting like a locked axle? I can't believe I've never noticed it before now! I guess the icy roads and parking lots have me doing different things than I would when I'm rolling around in the dirt.

Thanks for the info!

Ya, I had a 64 jeep J-200 lifted and had a grandma gear when I was young, you had to make sure there would be no solid ground if putting in 4x4, it would hop/bind baaad if turning on any solid ground! So when my f150 did it it freaked me out for a second then I totally remembered why was doing it.
