Default Roof

Has anyone noticed how flemsy the metal on the roof of a 2011 Screw is? I got up there and was surprised how thin it was and little pressure it took to make it go down. My son has a 98 camaro and wife a 2000 durango and you can't even press down on their roof.

Yeah I've noticed it. The roof and the hood both seem to me to be a bit light. They are much lighter than the previous generation. I already have hail dings from a minor hail storm. My '05 went through much worse and never had a single dent. I'm thinking of pulling the head-liner down and putting some sound dampening material up there. I noticed that it tends to reverberate with my exhaust and people I talk to on the hand-free device tend to hear it as well.

I think Ford is trying to reduce the weight and since all vehicles have air bags and crumple zones, it retains safety.

Come on guys lighten up! Everyone isn't a Harvard graduate and running a popularity contest with Their spelling ability. We all make errors. Let concentrate on what this forum is all about.

Yes that is what was concerning myself, hail. Sometimes when it comes down you can't always find a place to take cover. I would of thought for a sticker of over $50k that the quality of the roof metal would be stronger.

Do you notice the doors also? When I close my driver door the metal goes in, way more noticeable then even on my 08. I'm sure it's all doors however that's just the one I notice daily. Any spelling errors please get back to me Truth.

I can't wait for it to be raining and have the oldies station on -- and have them playing "Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain" on the radio. Know what I mean?
Yes, the roof is thin, but the indents add to its structural strength. Remember the disastrous front end collision video of the previous generation F150 where the whole cab collapses on the occupants?
Ford is to be commented that they made the new F150 lighter (if 6,200 pounds is light!!) and passed the collision testing with flying colors with the new model.

Noticed that right away... A bit disconcerting to see the door sheet metal flex so much just when flipping it closed. But I'm adjusting!

I believe 2011's also have a split-year roof design. Didn't Ford redesign the roof mid-way into the model year for improved rollover strength? Of course the flexing of the sheet metal might be the same. It's the supporting structure underneath that was improved.

Wait until they pass the 64 mpg fleet standard. We will probably be luckey if car bodies aren't made of tissue paper.
