Default Retrofit Backup Camera to 4.2 Display

So who has figured out to get the back camera display to the 4.2 LCD screen (non-touch, non-navigation) system. The 2014's now have this, and I like it better than having the small display in the rear view camera.

i remember seeing a member mentioning he has found a way to do it, have not seen him post his findings on whether or not it will work. I subscribed to the thread he mentioned it but the thread title slips my mind. Will post here if i find it.

Is the display on the 4.2 a full color LCD that would support this? I have mine in the rear view mirror but would be interested in adding a front camera and use the 4.2" LCD screen. unless anyone knows if you can use the rear-view camera for both a front and rear camera?

In this case, your best bet would be to get a aftermarket rear view mirror that supports 2 video inputs.

The Raptor actually uses a camera switching module to switch what video image displays. The issue here is, the forward camera option was/is only available with the Myford touch system. The Myford touch backup camera is actually hard wired to the APIM(sync module), where as the non touch screen(4.2") camera is wired direct to the screen(FDIM).

The 4.2" screen gets its reveres signal through the communication lines(LIN network), So tricking the screen(without the rest of the truck) into thinking its in reverse when it's really in drive would be a huge obstacle to figure out.

At the end of all this, adding a front camera to our 4.2" screen turns out to be more work than its worth.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from trying to figure this out, I'm just sharing my findings. I would love to see someone prove me wrong tho as I would like this option myself.

I and a handful of others including a dealer tech have found this mod to be unobtainable due to differences in the 4.2" screen and module programming.

It is standard on the 14's but not for 13's.

Many hopes and dreams as well as blood, sweat, have accumulated along with the tears.

Only solution is to acquire a 14 FDIM and have the as built data programmed to make it work. (in theory) hasn't been tested due to the $$$ of the FDIM.

I'm going to keep tabs on wrecking yards networks in the hopes of obtaining the 14 FDIM, I have the as built data required as well as the computer to flash program it.

So to make a short story long, no dice on this mod.

Here's what you can do. Most dealerships outsource their radio repair and ordering to companies outside of Ford. Go to a dealer, find out who does their radio repair, and have them contact that company for you. There is a chance that you could possibly order a kit from said company to make this work. This kit would have a new radio display with the enhanced programming to allow video signals to the display. It would include any necessary wire harnesses, and they also would in theory offer tailgate handle, emblem, or universal cameras to be used with this setup. Essentially, your 2013 would be equipped as if it where a 2014 after this mod. Be prepared for something around 500-1000 dollars, give this a try.
