Required filter brand?
My father in law is a die hard Chevy fan and he uses Motorcraft filters in his bow ties!
I used to use Fram, now I use Mobil 1, never had an oil issue in any of my vehicles.

Thanks everyone-
We tend to keep vehicles until they are completely worn out. I still have my 2001 Jeep XJ that we bought new. We still have the 2008 Honda Accord we bought new. I want to get the F-150 off to a good start too.
I change oil and filter every 3,000 miles regardless of what the manufacturer says about going to 5k or even higher. I don't change the oil in the Honda as we got free oil changes for life when we bought it so the techs at the Honda dealer are the only ones that have ever taken a wrench to the car.
I used Castrol 10/30 in the Jeep from day one and last November at 137,000 miles, a friend of mine checked the compression on each cylinder. Four of the cylinders rated at 170, one rated 165, and the last rated 175.
I switched to Mobile One High Mileage Synthetic at that point and it still runs awesome. I was told all of those ratings are within factory specs for a new 2001 242 ci, 4L inline 6. I still use the Purolator PureOne filter.
I hope the F-150 lasts at least that long and runs that well. I know a key to this is good maintenance and the oil/filter component plays a big part of that.
I know the early life of an engine can be a major factor in whether or not it runs well later on. In looking around online I have found praise and damnation for MotorCraft filters so I didn't know what to think.
Also didn't know that Wally World sold Motorcraft filters

Went wally world yesterday for oil and filter since they are cheaper than the auto store. But sadly no MC oil filter that I needed. They had the FL-400s but no FL-500s for the ecoboost
.
I like the price on the filters though under $5

Toddman34 - I was recently told by a coworker who drives ford, that the Ford Motorcraft oil filters are exactly like a Fram when cut open!

Can anyone confirm, he told me to stay away from both oil filters.... Already knew that Fram was junk! I was using ford Motorcraft or Mobil 1 oil filters, guess its back to the more pricey Mobil 1's!
.
Ford has denied warranty work for not using Motorcraft filters in the past and I'm sure they would do it again if given the chance.
The 04-08 trucks had big problems with the cam phasers. One search online will give you way more information than you would want on the subject. The issue was that the last thing to get oiled on first startup is those phasers. Many filters, Fram specifically included, did not have the anti drain bag feature and it would allow too much oil to fall back into the pan overnight and not give adequate oiling to those phasers at first startup, thus causing them to fail prematurely.
I had a 2005 FX4 and bought it used. When I first bought it, it would knock for just a second or two at first startup. I noticed that it wasn't a Motorcraft oil filter on the truck. Changed it to a motorcraft and ran it that way for almost 120k miles and never heard the noise again.
I'm sure other filters would ensure proper oiling, but Fram was one of the worst that caused many issues with those 5.4's. I know of 8 people personally who have this motor and have had those phasers replaced. 3 got it done under warranty and 5 didn't. The 5 that didn't were not using motorcraft filters prior to the replacement, but of course are now.

I goofed. The 3 that were replaced under warranty had not always used Motorcraft filters, but made sure there was one on there prior to taking it into Ford.
My bad!
