Replacement key cost???
 

Earlier this week, I picked up a 2014 FX4 Screw. The dealer said they had 2 sets of keys, but after signing the papers, the salesman went to fetch the other key. He couldn't find it. Now I feel like I am getting the run around. Pretty much, I feel like I will have to get one made from another Ford dealership. Anyone done this? How much should I expect? I do have remote start. I'm gonna give the salesman a few more days.

Mine only had one key, noticed after papers were signed. Dealer had me one made by the local Ford dealer free of charge. I just had to take the truck to them for them to program the key.

yup, keep after them, they promised you 2 keys, you keep at them until they give you 2. truck came from factory with 2, no reason that you should have to pay to have the second key. I did this with my Ranger from a used car dealership... they paid to have the new chip key made and programmed at the ford dealership down the road.
If need be, threaten to return the truck and go elsewhere.

Prices can vary, but a new key from Ford and programmed to the truck can be $120 or more per some people here. You need two good keys to be able to do some things to your truck - like add a 3rd key.

Since you only have one - regardless - when you get a second key it will have to be programmed to the truck with an IDS device - that is where the cost comes in - so make your selling dealer cut and program a key since they told you they had two.

Once you get two good keys - buy yourself a 3rd key for $20 off of Amazon and have it cut and program it yourself so you'll have an extra key.

I would make sure the dealer gets you a second key, even if it is a plain chipped key. That way you can add a remote start key way cheaper than buying one through the dealer. Ultimately, best case would be the dealer to give you the right key.

Had a new key made about a year ago. At a local dealer (upstate New York) the blank chip key was $100 plus a little, and then another $100 plus a little to program it. Had to leave them the truck for an hour or so because when I bought the truck I wasn't given the "master key." I now guard those keys like valuables - because they are.

$133 for a new key through Ford last year. Only had 1 key but according to Forscan my truck had 3 keys programmed to it. They wanted around another $160 to program the new key to the truck (pretty much 1 hour labor) but I just took it home and programmed it with Forscan (also erased the keys that I don’t have out of the system). I also made sure to get a key with the remote start button and unlocked the programming with Forscan so the way I look at it is I got a new key and remote start for only $133.
You can get a key off eBay a lot cheaper but you also run into a risk of the aftermarket key not wanting to program to the truck and by the time one buys the key and have it cut I was willing to spend a little extra at Ford for a piece of mind. Especially with how Forscan works.

Very easy to program a key. Just a few steps to get it working. I did this when i bought the oem remote start + key kit off ebay from a ford dealer.

I spent $50 at a local locksmith.
