Default Replacement hood questions

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster.

Like any good extreme DIY enthusiast, what started out as some repairs has been blown out of porportion into building the sh*tbox of my dreams.

Like the title says, im looking for a new hood(due to need), but after weeks of researching and scouring the forums... I still dont know the best route to go. Id like to get something more aggresive than the aluminum OEM replacement, but im not married to the idea, as i dont hate the look of it as is. The CF/FG replacements look really cool, but i know from experience those materials can turn into an expensive nightmare overtime and can have potential fitment issues. The steel hoods look great, and im leaning towards one of them, but boy are they heavy... And with having a steel front bumper, a full 6 inch lift kit, and 35x12.5in tires, my mpg's are already not great haha.

With all that being said, does anyone have any suggestions? Is the weight of a steel hood just a drop in the bucket at this point? Are any of the fiberglass/carbon fiber brands better to work with than others? Or do i just scrap the idea all together and stick with an OEM aluminum? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the Cervinis fiberglass type IV ram air hood on my truck, had it for several years now. Its only for looks, this particular one doesnt force air to the intake. Fits great, and worked with all oem hood hardware no problem. Had it professionally prepped, painted and installed at a local body shop.

As much as i like the looks, i didnt like how the hood scoops were wide open and had no screen or grate. I had to fabricate something myself. Luckily i havent had any issues with rain causing issues with anything in the engine bay from the hood scoops.

If i were to do it again id either get a ram air hood with screened scoops or a cowl hood. The fiberglass has held up great.

Damn, thats a great looking truck. I have the fiberwerx CF fenders and besides coming in as well, it's reassuring to see they look as good as i had hoped. Did you install them yourself? Did you have any fitnent issues with all your other aftermarket parts?

Thanks for that hood info. I initially really liked the 3" cowl Cervinis hood, but was skeptical from a bad review i had read. But after some thorough investigation this weekend, it appears the good far outweighs the bad, so ill be pulling the trigger.

The only fitment issue I had was some tire rub. It really wasn't that severe until I added the front winch bumper which added considerable weight to the front end.

I added the fiberwerx fenders because 3 years ago a rather large tree limb fell right onto my driver side fender, and I figured that if the truck is going into the body shop I might as well get wider fenders to alleviate the rubbing.

Just like the hood, the fiberwerx fenders fit great and the body shop did an excellent job with paint. I would point out that when looking at the fenders from a certain angle, the color appears different from the rest of the truck. But when youre close up it is clear the color matches quite well.

The fender side f150 badges cant be mounted to these fenders because of the curvature, so you'll lose those. If you dont have a stubby antenna, youll want to get one. I noticed that the antenna is angled just a tad inwards, again because of the curvature of the fender. Or you could just not mount an antenna at all I suppose.

I also had to fabricate fender liners for the fiberglass fenders, fiberwerx didnt offer liners to go with them. I bought a set of oem Raptor front fender liners and adapted them to these liners, which was a bit challenging. You could go without fender liners but you leave everything exposed if you dont get them.

I chose not to do bedsides, i have a roll cover on the bed, and i didnt find any that appeared to be compatible. And i had already installed rear wheel well liners some time ago so i didnt feel like that hassle being all for nothing.

Thanks again for all your recommendations, im really happy with tbe quality if the Cervini hood. Did the install on my own with minimal issues, the lineswere almost perfect. It's getting wrapped this week, but was too pumped up to not take a picture. The grill sucks, but its what i hadd on hand, and a few minor mounting line ups will need to be done with the bumper, lights, etc. before shes officially road ready (the insane perfectionist in me will never be satisfied) ... Just really need fiberwerx to get moving on the fenders and bedsides...

But heres where we're at

I really like how the cowl hood looks. Glad it was a good fit on your truck.
