Default Replacement of Both Turbos

Hello

I have a 2013 (purchased new in 2014) F-150 with the Ecoboost engine. It's been meticulously maintained, except for being a little late on my last oil change (3 months/9000km, rather than my usual 8000km, as I had just moved). Up until now, the truck has been a rock, with nothing more than minor bits being repaired under warranty.

It just rolled over 100000km (106500km), and after a mildly enthusiastic acceleration last Wednesday, it has started to make a noise that I can only liken to Dr Zoidburg from Futurama, when accelerating, primarily between 1500 and 2000 rpm (sort of whup whup whup noise, with a bit of a whine/clunk and then silence if I goose it). As it was already booked for its oil changed, I immediately called the new to me dealership, who assured me it was fine to keep driving until Friday.

At the service, they claimed that the hoses for the turbos were a bit loose, but that they couldn't replicate the noise, so $150 "diagnostic" poorer, I left... Whereupon it immediately made the same noise. I returned to the dealership and took the tech for a ride... He was confused by the noise, but I left it there with them, and paid out of pocket for a rental.

Late Friday, I got a call that *both* turbos, gaskets, *everything* turbo-related needs to be replaced to the tune of almost $4000 after taxes. And that it shouldn't be driven.

The truck has been towed to a different dealership on the advice of my service adviser back in Edmonton, who had bad experiences with the first dealership I went to. I tried calling Ford Canada, but their attitude is that because the first dealership offered me a nominal discount on the shop rate, that's sufficient, and they have washed their hands of me (unless my Edmonton adviser manages to shake something loose, which is possible).

I'm waiting for a diagnosis from Dealership #2, and possibly a visit from a family member's "Ford guy." I have a feeling that I'm being scammed... Or that the first dealership doesn't really know what's wrong, and is throwing parts/my money at it. Does this seem legit? That both turbos would go at once, conveniently right after the powertrain warranty expired?

Thanks for any advice or opinions offered!
