WITH CAPLESS FUEL (EASY FUEL) - EVAPORATE LEAK SERVICE TIP.
FOR 2008-2010 FORD/LINCOLN/MERCURY VEHICLES WITH CAPLESS FUEL (EASY FUEL) THAT HAVE MIL FOR DTCS P0442, P0455 OR P0456 OR "CHECK FUEL FILL INLET" DISPLAYED IN THE MESSAGE CENTER WITH DTC P0457 AND THE EVAPORATIVE LEAK TEST CONFIRMS SMOKE FROM CAPLESS DOOR, THE LEAK COULD BE DUE TO DEBRIS (SAND, DUST) ON THE SEAL. BEFORE REPLACING PARTS, ACTUATE CAPLESS SEALING DOOR FIVE TIMES TO CLEAR DEBRIS USING SUPPLEMENTAL REFUELING ADAPTER (SRA) FUNNEL OR A STANDARD UNLEADED FUEL FILLER NOZZLE. REFER TO OWNER GUIDE FOR THE SRA LOCATION IN VEHICLE. YOU MAY ALSO USE SHORT BURSTS OF SHOP AIR ONTO THE CAPLESS DOOR SEAL TO CLEAR THE DEBRIS ON THE SEAL. RUN EVAPORATIVE LEAK TEST AGAIN. IF LEAK IS STILL PRESENT WITH CONFIRMATION OF SMOKE, FOLLOW NORMAL WORKSHOP MANUAL PROCEDURES.

I put a locking fuel cap on mine just outa caution.
I old enough to remember the ol sugar in the gas tank crap. If you really wanted to be malicious you would put valve grinding compound in there.

pointless concidering mythbusters along with several other myth debunking parties have busted the sugar idea and most any substance that is not in liquid form. the prefilter on the pump prevents most debris from entering the fuel system, it pretty much just remains in the tank

I have not seen the myth busters episode you speak of, but I find it hard to believe that sugar will not wreck the fuel system.

Kids are not smart enough to figure out the fuel door on these trucks. They would pop open the exterior door and get confused when they can't open the interior one.

I got bit by the nozzle with a gap at the tip....was distracted by um, well, the scenery.
Solution was to take an old tape measure and cutting two 15" long pieces and sliding them down the nozzle past the sticking point, then pulling nozzle out....think of a shoe horn.
now I have two pre-cut pieces of tape measure in the door pocket just in case the scenery distracts me!
