I did the factory plug and play and it totaled me just shy of $275, but my dealership likes me. I have no issue with the range. I can start my truck from inside my concrete block office with it being parked a block away. I personally have no need for more range than that.

Dont remeber the first I think it was audivox or something the last one I had was a clifford. You can get all the fancy options but really dont use them. Just go to Best Buy or local stereo shops and look at their systems they go from usually 150-Up then add $100 to install usually. Dont get the cheapest but dont get the $500+ ones unless you want it. They all start your truck and the range is similar unless you get the one where its an app on your phone then you can call your truck and start it anywhere you want.

Speaking of the app for the phone. Does anyone know if there is a monthly charge to have that setup? I mean you are sending a signal and I'm sure someone is making a dime for that service.

Ive been through a few alarms in the last 10-20 years....recently Ive had the Viper 5902 with OLED 2 way paging, Compustar SSPro unit which is a 2way pager, and an older Compustar FM unit ( i think its a CM3000), and a new autopage 1100 with C3 hybrid gps and phone app.

I had the compustar in my 2010 F150 since i bought it, and it gave me nothing but trouble. It wasnt install either...it was hardware, between the remote and antenna. compustar couldnt figure it out..they kept thinkingit wa sa firmware issue in the remote....seriously? i've used compustar for the last 10 years and loved their products...untill this new SpreadSpectrum cr@p! I got so pissed at the unit..i removed it from the truck and installed the autopage unit...so much nicer...love the remote unit also, and love the fact i can use my iphone to lock, unlock, start , stop, or jsut see where my truck is with the GPS locate feature!

My second choice would be the viper 5902.....i think the new model number is the 5904 ...but same unit as the 5902....awesome unit...works as intended...the ONLY downfall of that unit is the remote....the remote start button is way to easy to accidently push...im constanly starting my daily driver when im holding the key fob. Otherwise you cant go wrong with it.

oh, and yes there is a charge for the phone app...with the autopage unit you get the first year free...after that its $100 a year and also you use data from your phones data plan.
