Default Remote Start Problem

I have a 2014 STX. When I bought the truck 4 years ago, I added OEM remote start and had a dealer enable it.

This summer, a different dealer performed the transmission recall service on my truck. However, I noticed my remote start no longer worked. I figured it must have been due to my truck no coming from the factory with it enabled. Strangely enough though, the OEM trailer brake controller I added still worked fine.

I finally got around to calling my buddy at the dealer where I had the tranny recall done and told him what happened. Had me bring it in, reminded me to bring both keys, and said it would be on them. Let me borrow his personal vehicle for the day.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t get my remote start working. I was texting back and forth all day, make sure I didn’t have more keys, was I sure it was OEM, was it definitely a dealer who turned it on before. When I picked it up, he and his techs were all dumbfounded. He walked through the whole process and how everything on their computer showed indicated it should be working. His best guess is it’s some kind of key issue, maybe related to not having a key with a remote start button. But I never did, hitting the lock button the two times worked fine the last 4 years.

At this point, I’ve decided for now to dabble in Forscan to see if I can find a workaround. This dealer said they could not use Forscan. I wonder if maybe the previous dealer wasn’t so above board and used Forscan in the first place? I’m really at a loss.

I feel like a wimp, but I live where it’s cold and miss that feature. I guess if this doesn’t work I may go aftermarket unfortunately…or perhaps trade in. But that’s a whole different thread (literally, go check it out!)
