I've noticed same thing. Outside temp shows higher than actual temp at startup. Takes a bit to display actual temp. Looks like it's showing last known temp?? Don't think eng temp is affecting because it's cold at startup.

I wouldn't disagree with you but....there is no way it reached 70f here yesterday (or for the last month actually).

Made me laugh! It is about 28-35f here lately....no where close to cold yet, still wearing short sleeves...

Just went to truck and turned on (did not start) to check EXT TEMP displayed - 45f, true outside temp is 34.3f using a NOAA reportable thermometer 15 feet from the truck. So I am thinking the temp sensor is maybe still seeing residual heat from the engine/radiator that is mounted to (truck has been sitting for 6 hours now)????

2 1/2 hours later....checked the EXT TEMP again and it reads 41f now (real temp is 33.6). Just used auto start to get ready to go home will check it when I get in. I will post results monday (going to get drunk and watch hockey games next two nights )

Here is the update... When I got in the truck friday afternoon the seats were cold, put the key in and EXT TEMP at 68f. Used the Auto start several times this weekend and everytime the EXT TEMP is initially showing a "high" reading until the truck has been driven 1/8-1/4 mile. I really think the engine heat (or heat off of the radiator) is affecting the EXT TEMP Sensor and causing the seasts to not come on or shut off quickly after the heat builds up on the sensor.
Has anybody else experianced the same?

35-45° mornings over the weekend and the seats never came on...don't know why but the part about the truck having to warm up seems the most obvious

I called the dealer back on Friday and they said Ford told them that they haven't published what temperature is considered COLD or HOT to automatically enable the climate control. I told them they need to find out and to get back with me. They agreed but haven't heard from them yet. We had a cold snap last week and this week is in the high 70's and upper 50's so it might be a little while before I get any cold weather to test this again.

I did find this on the 2011 Ford HD trucks though so not sure if it applies:

When the remote start feature is used, the climate control system automatically sets certain parameters in an attempt to achieve a comfortable cabin temperature. These parameters are set based on outside air temperature. During remote start, the outside air temperature is continually evaluated and HVAC system behavior can change if the outside air changes between cold, moderate and warm temperatures.

For cold ambient air temperatures (below 32° F (0° C)):

• the airflow mode is set to FLOOR/DEFROST.
• the temperature is set to full HOT.
• the blower speed is set to HIGH.
• the air inlet mode is set to fresh air.
• the auxiliary electric heater is enabled if needed (diesel only).

For moderate ambient air temperatures (between 32° F (0° C) and 80° F (27° C)):

• the airflow mode is set to the last user setting.
• the temperature is set to the last user setting.
• the blower speed is set to the last user setting.
• the air inlet mode is set to the last user setting.
• the auxiliary electric heater is enabled if needed (diesel only).

For warm ambient air temperatures (above 80° F (27° C)):

• the airflow mode is set to MAX A/C.
• the temperature is set to full COOL.
• the blower speed is set to HIGH.
• the air inlet mode is set to RECIRC.
• the auxiliary electric heater is not enabled (diesel only).

Seats
When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature, the driver/passenger climate controlled seat activates in full heat mode when the outside temperature is less than 32° F (0° C) and full cool mode when outside temperature is greater than 80° F (27° C).

Mirrors
When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 32° F (0° C), the heated mirrors will be activated.

Rear Defroster
When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 32° F (0° C), the rear defroster will be activated.

Yep, today started my truck maybe 5 minutes before I was ready to go. It was 44 deg F, when I got in the truck it was reading 68 deg F, not even a mile down the road it was reading 44 deg F. The placement of the temp sensor is poor my guess and engine heat is altering the reading.
