I think I answered this already for you in the other thread, but yes the heater should be blowing at high.

Prior to all these fancy control settings in the dash cluster and "auto" climate control systems, you always had to manually set the climate control switches including the fan setting before leaving the truck and that's how it would turn back on when remote starting. That's how its been done since remote starters came out like 15 years ago.

I personally don't care for "auto" climate control and I always manually change the temp and fan settings in my truck.

In my truck you have the choice to set the remote start to heat according to "auto" mode or "last setting" in the LCD display settings.
I need to be in "last setting" for fans to come on like you left it when turning off the truck.

OP here. Somewhat amazing the thread is still active after over a year since I first created it.

Today was 30 degrees with ice on the windows. Remote started and it ran the full 15 minutes. Started it again and it ran for another 5 minutes before I finally got in.

Cabin was quite warm, all windows with ice melted off and driver seat was warm.

So everything works, just have to let it run to feel it. But my biggest question is how cold, the actual degree, does that outside temperature need to be for the AUTO settings to turn on the heat settings? The manual doesn't state for neither cold or hot.

Sorry to again resurrect an old thread but just purchased a 2013 FX4 and was wondering why the heated seats do not come on with the remote start everyone else I know that has a vehicle with this type of feature thought it was strange so went back through the owners manual and found out how to enable - YEAH! At least until I checked the settings and they were already correct

So that is how I found this thread. I've read through the whole thing and here is a summary of what is going on:
  • Ford ext. temp sensor positioning might affect operation
  • External temp. does control the seats and other HVAC settings
  • -30 degrees is when the seats "should" heat
  • +80 the seats "should" cool
  • When seats are opperating the panel does not show operation and come on low (assume cooled work same way?)
  • heated seats on low take approx 10 min. before you really feel them warm
I have only had my truck 3 weeks and have not had the heated seats come on however coldest temp may have been upper 20's in the am and I have not been leaving the truck warm up for more than 2 or 3 minutes. My question: Is there any difference between 2011, 2012 and 2013 with this feature? I am guessing no but did not see any comments on this.

Default Here's my story about the OAT indicator and remote start...

Hello guys, it's been awhile since I've been here visiting the forum...So anyway, 2-3 weeks ago, I notice the Outside Air Temperature(OAT) indicator in the cab was fluctuating and erratic. First time I noticed it, I left home and the temperature was indicating 18 degrees Celsius. While driving to work, it jumps right to 25 C and came back down around 21 degrees. It was about the right temp at the time. Sometime I leave home at the morning and the temperature is indicating about 5-6 degrees above the actual outside temperature. Just tonight again, the actual Temp was 9 degrees Celsius and the Temp that my truck was indicating was 20 degrees(11 fu#%&# degrees above) So my concern is, I think when it will be time to remote start my truck and if it's cold outside enough to get frost build up in the window and side mirrors, the heated mirrors/heated seats/ rear defrost window won't activate.

Like the OP mentioned, the owner manual state that ; " The climate control system will condition the cabin temperature during remote start based on the outside temperature." It also states that " on auto climate control, The interior cabin will be set to 72F (22C), the heated seats(if equipped and if the feature is selected to AUTO in the message center) will be set to high. Rear defrost/heated mirrors(if equipped) will be activated.

Here's the tests I've done and I can assume it's probably not a sensor problem...

I disconnect the OAT sensor, turned the ignition ON and the Temp was indicating -40 degrees(Celsius). So far, this is normal. After I reconnect the sensor without turning the IGN switch OFF, the Temp was still indicating -40 degrees. Turn the Ignition OFF, reconnect the sensor and Ign switch ON again, and the Temp was indicating about the actual temp. To test what they state in the owner manual. I let the sensor disconnected, roll down the driver side window and remote start the truck. Sure enough, the front defrost for the windshield was at full blast, the heated seats and mirror was also at HIGH.

The system is working as intended BUT, if the sensor is sending a wrong signal or, in my case, I think it's more of a control module problem, the HVAC and the rest of what's it's controlled while Remote Start won't work properly.

After doing this test, I reconnect the OAT sensor and the Temp in the cab was still indicating -40 degrees Celsius. Turned the Ignition ON and OFF several times, always stuck at -40 C. I had to drive a few minutes to get the Temp indicating around the actual Temp Outside. That is the reason why, I think it's a control module problem more than a sensor problem... Anyway, in my case here!

Let me know what you guys think, any comments or anything you could think of would help. Anyone who have this same exact issue got it fixed????? Dealer so far have done only a hard reset of the control module. (I think it was on the BCM because I lost all the preset channels on my Sat radio)... I don't think they look at the sensor, they probably know already that it's not the problem but don't want to get to far into this!! I might be wrong but that's my opinion!!! Okay, any help. Sorry for the long "reply".

My experience contradicts this. The fan speed is the only item that is ignored when auto is selected. It will select full hot, and defrost, but on mine anyhow, the selected fan speed is adhered to. (Manual controls, XLT)

Who knows which is best! I have the long range (one way) Ford unit with the separate fobs. Not a huge fan of the separate fobs, but the range is excellent, and the keyless entry range is now over 500', before adding the remote start, and subsequent antennae, the range was maybe 100'
Check out the most current options on the Ford Accessories site.
