Not sure if you dad's car is having the same issues, but the Transmission and Hill assist lights come on in my Fiesta when I accidentally try to start the car after it has been started, remote start or not. not sure what causes it, but shutting the engine off and back on resets it. I have taken it to the dealer a couple of times and they could not find anything wrong with it. Ford engineers told them it's a software glitch and not to try to start the car after it has been started already.

I am now careful to just move the key to the ON position and no further and the issue does not occur.

I'll check it out next time I see him, but it sounds a little different. I believe he sees the error when he stops at a light, after already driving.
