Well I just completed this on my 3rd vehicle. I opt'd not to run the lights as DRLs. Was able to complete the entire job in roughly 40 minutes.
I did use different connectors which made wiring WAY easier. Get yourself a set of these clip on thingys:

I did this at the weekend. Very easy....!!!
I bought the LED strips at WalMart in the auto section - about $30 for 2x12" high intensity LED strips.
I have a 2012 Platinum with the puddle lights under the mirrors....I tried to get to the wires in there first but although I could feel them, they were no where near long enough to get to. That was a pi$$ off for sure.
I ended up popping off the mirror on either side, this is actually very, very easy to do. Get a large flat head screw driver, a very bright flashlight, hook in by the clip, twist and work around until it comes off. If you're gentle and patient, this is very easy. I got mine off, wired, working and back together in about an hour.
It's such an easy yet effective mod to make. I can't understand why Ford didn't just include this as a standard item on the F150's???

Ok I have been wanting to do this mod for a long time. I have an 08 f150 and I screwed up a mirror and had to get new ones. So I got 2012 mirrors now I'm gonna do the mod. Here's my plan. I've got two different sets of LEDs, one is brighter than the other. I plan to use brighter one for blinker and dimmer one for running lights. Where do I get the power for running lights?

On my 12' I used the hot wire for window switch illumination, which is hot with key on for both sides. For your 08' you can use it but the window lock switch turns off the pass side. The other option is to run wire from park lamp light/harness into door and to mirror.

I finally tried to do this mod. I went through puddle light cover and was able to disconnect the wires from the OEM LED's in the mirror. How the hell do I get them connected??? I cannot get my fat fingers in there far enough. I'm scared to death to take the mirror off. Any suggestions?
