Only way i can think of to avoid actually cutting the factory wiring is to open up the factory wires (i think theyre taped together) and splice to new ones to them using some sort of scotch locks

Well I did read about someone using 3m quick spice connectors...ill just have to open it up and see...I think it would keep the plug from being cut off but your still spliced into the wire

Any more information on this? I'd like to get the 3rd brake light too, but I'm not electrically-savvy and I know there is some extra work needed for this. More details and perhaps step-by-step instructions and observations would help!

Wires are color coded and recons instructions tell you which are which. Use electrical splice connectors that are at any auto parts store. You don't have to cut the Ford connector off. I personally spliced then wrapped the splices and connector in electrical tape before stuffing everything back into the roof. I'm sure anyone could install one on their truck themselves.

Make sure you seal the light to the cab with a good gasket, caulk or RTV sealant.

This is my biggest concern here. I plan on installing tomorrow, did you just put some extra RTV on the gasket itself

My Recon cargo light did not conform or seal tight against the cab. Yes, I used some Permatex black RTV, got rid of the gasket. Placed RTV on the bottom of the light and also sealed around the perimeter.

If I ever have to open it again, I'll use the 3M strip caulk instead.

Here you go. Wiring is pretty easy, just 3 wires. I don't know my stock 3rd should looks like this when I washed it or not. It sure doesn't look good. Anyway. I took some pics. 10-15 min easy job.

Thanks ship it!

Also, has anyone used / have experience with the Bully LED 3rd brake light? Seems most everyone has Recon for their 2009+ so just wondering. It's about $30 cheaper but just don't know much about Bully.
