receiver ratings
I posted this on the towing forum but thought I would throw it out here also,
I have a 2011 Lariat with factory installed receiver. Does someone know what class hitch this would be? I am considering a travel trailer in the 5000 to 6000 GVR and want to make sure I am in good shape.
Thanks, Pete

Not class rated hitches have the same ratings, so you can't really go by what class someone calls it. The specific numbers are what counts.
If you are towing with weight distribution then the factory hitch is good to go, but if without weight distribution you need a heavier rated receiver. Many out there are rated to 1,000lb without weight distribution.
Next will be the masses contending that the 500lb limit is a truck limit, then we will have endless back and forth where nobody can substantiate the claim, but are certain anyway.

Agree, but didn't make the distinction due to him potentially being out both ways on the Ford receiver. Curt has a Class IV where he would be ok both ways. 2013 Ford F-150 Trailer Hitch - Curt (etrailer.com)
