Reasons not to buy Ecoboost

Reasons not to buy Ecoboost
First of all I will make a couple of disclaimers, as I cannot speak for everyone.
1.You should only take the transmission issues to heart if you are a perfomance enthusiast that loves to get on the gas.
2. If you drive 60 mpg and have a 2wd, you MIGHT get that 21 mpg hwy.
3. I had both MPT and SSI tunes on my truck across its 17.8k life span. Stock you may never have an issue.
4. I apologize to those that become butt-hurt over this, but it needs to be said.
Now on with the purpose. I just traded in my 2013 luxury package FX4 ecoboost because it was such a disappointment. I know there will be all kinds of hate here, because there always is about everything, but this is meant for people researching the trucks they are considering buying.
1. Dash squeaked like mad at 200 miles on the ticker. Dealerships couldnt fix after multiple times in. took me 13 tries to get it to shut up by cutting off the 6 clips on the back side of the center piece (I left 4 mounting bolts)
2. It got 13.5 mpg over its lifetime, and the BEST it ever got was 18 cruising at 60 mph(usually about 16 at 60)....70 mph=15 mpg, 75 mph = 14 mpg. Straight City, 12 mpg. Never saw anything close to the advertised 21 mpg on hwy, even at 60 mph on cruise. 15 in city was just as much of a joke, even with economy tunes. Research Ford's issues that they have recently admitted to EPA estimates being too generous for at least 6 of their models.
3. Transmission was going out. Sticking in 3rd, missing 4th and revving out, making all kinds of band slippage noise during shifts. Started making noise at less than 1,000 miles. Figured if I blew a tranny that quick, I didnt want to stick around and see what happened after 60k. I dogged on my Titan 5x as much and had a lot more mods done to it (roughly 450 hp vs 317 stock) and never once had a peep out of anything in the 60k miles I had it. The only thing I had done to the Ford was a programmer. No intake, no exhaust....
4. Absolutely horrible trade in value for being less than a year old with 18k on it. Had it appraised at 4 dealerships. Highest offer was $34k after a lot of negotiating. The freaking MSRP was $52k. Lost $1/mile in value. Luckily the dealership didnt catch wind of the tranny having issues. Thing is that I know they weren't jacking with me because they put it out on their lot for $38.9k.
5. Rode like a Ford always has. Ride in a Dodge, Nissan, Toyota, or Chevy and hit some bumps, then ride in the Ford over the same bumps. You will see what I mean.
6. Tow 9600 lbs (1/500 probably have the package rated to tow the infamous 11,300 lbs)? Hah, I would hate to see that MPG. I towed my Jeep on a 16' flatbed (about 6k lbs) and averaged 8.0 mpg over 700 miles at less than 70 mph on flat Texas roads.
7. Electronic issues in steering wheel controls. Try to change station, it would change modes. Or skip around, or whatever it felt like.
8. Fx4 off road package? Take the shocks off and see how wimpy they are. I had stiffer shocks on my Tacoma from factory. Look at the skid plates and try to flex them with your hand...you will find that you can bend them.
9. Did I mention bad mpg?
10. Listen to your original thoughts from years back when you said you wouldn't buy a Ford. Otherwise you will regret it and wish you had listened to yourself. Just because they appear to be nicer trucks now doesnt mean they are better quality, in fact I feel that they are cheaper now. My buddy's 2004 seems to have much more attention to detail (but no power).
11. My buddy has one with SSI tunes on it and 17k miles. Piston rings were shot, cylinders washed, and timing chain tensioner F'd.
12. THere is a reason so many ppl call the ecoboost "ecoburst" or "ecopoop."
For the time being I am going to make due without a truck (traded on a loaded acura TL for my wife). But you better believe that when the new Tundra gets that 5.0L Cummins, they will have my business. Until then, when I need a truck for a day, I will make due with renting a uhaul pickup or home depot pickup for $20/day, and benefit from the increased gas mileage I am seeing in the Subaru WRX (not to mention it is 10x more fun to drive).

Sadly, it is fast. I admit that. But only with a programmer, and the tranny flat out didn't handle it. Maybe most of yours did, but that means you dont push it as hard as I do. I used to drift my Titan on dry road, power brake the crap out of it, and never once had a problem...and all in all, it was MAYBE 0.2 sec slower in the 1/4...MAYBE. At least it sounded like a truck.
I DRIFTED THE FORD TWICE. Turbo made it unpredictable. rather have the raw, instant, predictable power of a v8.

I'd be interested to take apart your Titan and view the gear wear/damage. Just because it hasn't had a "problem" doesn't mean the internals aren't nearly shot.
