Default Rear window randomly exploded

2010 XLT SCAB, electric rear sliding window. So just driving down the road the passenger side pane of the 3 pane rear window decides to just shatter. $700+ to replace all 3 panes as a unit. anyone had this happen before? are they blowing smoke up my *** saying that they cant just replace the single pane of glass?

you cannot replace the individual windows on a Ford sliding backglass, even though there is a part number for the middle glass:

DB10767YPYN Back Window (cntr)(man)(mov)(slr contr)(OE) List: $389.20 Labor : 4.1 Hours

i've replaced just the middle glass on a Ram 1500-3500 and a Honda Ridgeline, but never a Ford

I know I've seen some threads about the elect. defrost malfunctioning and causing the rear window to break.

Yeah deffinitly have read threads about the back passenger pane shattering randomly. It's a known problem I guess I would see how much a solid pane is cost wise if u wouldn't miss the opening window much.

I had a coworker whose brand new Nissan Rogue went over a bump and the sunroof shattered. I think sometimes it is just a defect in the material or manufacturing process that happens very rarely. That's what warranties are for!

apparently when its very cold outside and you put the rear defroster on it has been known to shatter the back right window. i think a few dealerships did the work under warranty but im not positive on that.

Get a quote from a glass shop, if you are thinking of going solid they may even have a take off laying around for real cheap. I've had a few sliders break on various trucks and every time it requires the whole thing to be replaced.

Insurance is covering it, $250 deductible isnt terrible compared to the overall cost. Still sucks that this is obviously a manufacturers defect that caused it, hard to believe its not covered under my awesome(:P) extended warranty. first issue I've had in 60k miles, so I guess I cant complain.
