Rear seat DVD player for kids
Hey all, just got back from a long trip and had the unfortunate first time experience if a screaming 1 year old. I'm thinking a rear seat DVD player might be what the doctor ordered for our headaches.
Anyone have any experience with this? What to look for, what to look out for, best kits on the market?
Cheers

I have a portable player that just attaches to the back of your head rest, the thing works awesome and when you are doing those short trips that don't require a movie you just don't have it in the vehicle. Kid doesn't see it, kid doesn't scream to watch a show. About $100.

i went the cheap route grabbed an 50$ portable one from walmart, drop it on the centre console and go... albeit at 1 years old probably not a whole lot he'll watch for an hour... our little guy is now 3 and we've struggled with this for well the last two years... now we drive at night... when he wakes up i hope im near a mcdonalds play ground ( we said we'd never go to macdonalds with out kids lmao... ) anyhow.. he runs around for an hour we get food in him and hit the road again... keep in mind we need 14hrs to get to family... no kid will put up with that... momma jumping in the back helps too

if you have an ipad then you just buy a mount or do what i did and run a piece of rope from one headrest post to the next and sync the bluetooth, woila, instant ghetto surround sound

I bought a seat mounted dvd player, still have it and only use it when camping. My last truck, Ram 1500, I ordered it with rear dvd, used it maybe 3 or 4 times, total waste of money. My son stopped wanting to watch movies in the car at about age 4, now at 5 he just listens to music, or falls asleep, lol. Personally just go the cheap way.

I've taken 15 hr trips with a 2 yr old and can atest to two things....
1) you should start planning your trips over night. The later you can get started, the further you'll get between stops and the shorter those stops will be.
2) a portable player than just velcros around the headrest is all you really need. you can take it in to the hotel too. Get a collection of Mickey Mouse or whatever and you're set.

Bought this for my truck and the wife's car. You get 2 players but only 1 car charger. I bought a 2nd one on eBay. They mount with ease and stay in place. Had them for 2 years now and no problems. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-US...layer/15268282

If your going to drop money on a DVD player whether it be in the headrest or roof mounted you might as well just use that money and buy an iPad instead if you already don't have one. There are plenty of mounts for them to mount them behind a headrest. Load them up with movies and strap it to the back of the seat. That's what we do for our little one. Plus you have the ability to remove it from the car and use it for whatever else you use it for. The mount we bought I got from walmart for about 40$. I believe Griffen makes it.
