Its not a leak unless its dripping, 66fordsvt yours is more of a leak, the way they build the diffs is they glue the shafts in place in the housing and plug weld the tubes to the housing, the leak that you are showing Bimmer Ese is just a minor seepage and will never cause an issue, clean off with brake cleaner and add some black gear oil safe silicon and you will never see this again.

 

Yeh I'm calling mine a seep due to no drips. Truck has yet to have anything on concrete... But it's a leak when u look at it!

 

So I popped my head under the truck today and found this. Searched and found this thread which pretty much says its nothing to worry about, however this my leak is showing in a different area. Still nothing to worry about?

 

That appears to be your rear differential pinion seal. Just check the diff fluid every so often and not worry about it for now (in my Internet opinion for whatever that is worth). Search youtube for "pinion seal replacement" for details.

 

you just need to replace gasket or seal or use rvt silicone, the other 2 pictures are not worth concerning yourself about. the pinion seal would need to get worse before i would do anything. it is not just a matter of replacing the seal you will have to set the preload after removing pinion nut, risk not getting it set right, plus the nut is hell to break loose without a air impact wrench what should not be used.

 

Have a 2013 Lariat and with 2,500 miles my rear diff looked the same way. It was the rear pinion seal and was fixed under warranty. It was accompanied by a clunk when put into reverse. If its still under warranty, bring it in, takes about 1/2 hr.

 

Clunk in reverse as well, funny you say that. I did a post earlier today about my truck clunking and having a bit of a delay when shifting from drive to reverse. Maybe these two are related. Looks like it needs to go in.

 

The axle tube is just pressed into the pumpkin and some do seep a little oil. From the looks of the pics. you posted yours looks like about 2 drops in 25k I would probably wash it off and drive straight to the Chevy dealer and trade it in or wash it off and drive it another 25k and let another 2 drops leak out
