Default Rear diff 2010 5.4 king ranch

Has anyone experienced clunking noise from rear diff when downshifting to 1st im about change trans mount but yesterdayvi had help and being under truck it sounds like coming from rear diff im struggling with this downshifting issue i almost want to say 4x4 shaft is making noise too

A dry transmission splined output shaft yoke can be the source of driveline clunks. Mark the driveshaft so it goes back in the original orientation, remove it, apply a little grease to the yoke’s internal splines. Noise should stop if that’s where it is coming from.

This. I'm in the southeast, with our weather, I've had to do it about every 70k miles.

are you talking about the 4x4 shaft

im in southeast louisiana are you talking about yoke thats after transfer case and what do you do exactly

Yes grease splined yoke. Front drive line isn’t likely DD noise.

do you have to pull the entire thing out like both sides to get to it and is it a time consuming job and on the more better have patients and be ready to curse kinda job

Difficulty is in the very simple category. If you can figure out how to change a battery, driveline removal shouldn’t be a problem. Slide under the truck, take a look and decide if you want to tackle the job or pay a mechanic.

Remove driveline from diff first and slide splined yoke off output shaft, (assuming that is what you have). Might have to jack axle to rotate driveline for access to bolts.

i realy appreciate all the knowledge some of my questions might sound stupid but its the kind of work thatvtakes patience machanic work is not my favorite but i can do it so why not and save money and teach myself patience

Im just being made aware that if i put in neutral and stop it doesnt make that clunk noise i did see on youtube that theres a plastic peice after bottom plate is removed from trans that can be cracked am i screwed is my trans going out or need to be rebuilt im thinking worst case scenerio but maybe someone has an answer or experience with that plastic piece under plate on bottom of tranny
