Yeah, next time, I'll start in 2HI, go around the waterbox, spin the tires just slightly ... enough to get the grit off ... then launch like there's no tomorrow.

The Ram's are pretty stout. Check this months Four Wheeler magazine. They did a test with a 1/2 ton 4x4 EB against 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 which were 1300-1600 pounds heavier and the dodge still was faster than the Ford EB. How do you know he is 500lbs lighter? That is a huge amount of weight.

Have you ever tried messing with the rear air pressure? I'm thinking someone one here with an EB (not that it matters) was getting their best times in 2HI running ~24psi...not sure which tires he had...

If you just let the auto trans shift when its supposed to you will do better than trying to shift on the fly. The TCM is going to shift at the perfect time. Ford spent a lot of time getting the shift points right. Trying to shift it in manual mode will slow down your times.

If your using manual that is.

You can shift out of 4hi to 2hi under full throttle. There isn't even a bump. I do it when I run.

Thats good mph on the dodge..The 5star tune wont get rid of your rev limiter,He just bumps it up higher.I played around with the shift points quite a bit and like mike told me the truck seems to like the 6400-6600range.And as others have said ive swapped from 4hi to 2hi under full throttle, but it didnt make the change till i slowed down on the other end.

It's in my OP #1 ... his was 2WD, spare remove, tailgate removed, no toolbox and I'm 40 lbs heavier, so, to better state it, I guess I should have said he was at a 500+ advantage if all things were eaqual.

There wasn't a need to since I was launching in 4HI, but, next outing at the track and lauch on 2HI and I'll drop the rear corners down to about 18 psi and adjust from there on subsequent runs. I used to drop the rears on my Trans Am and run my best runs at 14 psi. The Mickey Thompson drag radials were a 305 or a 315 width ... forget which.

I tried manual shift on a lone stretch of country road and it bogs so bad, I didn't even try it at the track. It hits the rev limiter too easy in manual mode.

I'm just going to try launching in 2HI. The track uses VHT Trackbite, so, I should be able to get a good dig without using 4HI. If that doesn't work out, I'll try the 4HI to 2HI switch.

Yeah, I guess there's a liability issue if he knocked down the rev limiter completely. Looking at many dyno graphs for the 5.0, Mike told you right. The nhorepower can carry you so far, but, once the torque takes a nose-dive you gotta' get in that next gear just before that point, which seems to be right around 6550.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I've got to get an exhaust on this thing ... even if it's just a catback. When I get paid next week, I can order up a tune from 5-Star. My Superchips tuner just doesn't give me a high enough shift point.

You can turn the **** under load, but the hubs won't unlock until there is little/no load on them. They will stay engaged! It is vacuum that unlocks the hubs, no mechanical linkage.

Some people just refuse to believe that...they think if you turn the **** it is instantly so
