Question about camper towing
Lookin to buy a camper. Just bought my 13 f150 xlt short bed (no ecoboost) 5.0. I've looked at all the towing capacity charts and I basically just don't understand them. So I need some help.
Looking for a hitch trailer not 5th wheel (unless that's a better option) but wanting to know what weight camper I can buy and be comfortable towing? Thanks |
Would need more info, 2wd or 4x4, rear end ratio: 3.31, 3.55, or 3.73, and I'm assuming it's a regular cab?

Sorry about that. 4x4 supercrew. Not sure on gear ratio. Where can I find that?
|
Put your VIN number in here. It'll tell you what ratio you have.

There is an entire section of the forum dedicated to Towing, with pretty clear discussions. Payload will be your overriding restriction. My signature has one good post you can start with.

This might help.
http://www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides/ Peruse RV.net , use the search feature, or post a question. Just my .02 Please do the research about towing. Sales people will tell you, Yes you can tow that!!!! |
Anything under 6000lbs dry(empty holding tanks) will be enjoyable to tow, anything over is possible physically but it will annoy the hell out of you.
I have a 5000lb. 28 foot TT and the same engines as you. |
Sounds great. thanks guys for all the responses and links

I had both an ecoboost and 2 5.0's. Purely for towing I agree, towing was a joy. The 5.0 feels a lot heavier pulling 5000 lbs. Yes hitch weight or 'tongue weight ' is also very important to consider.
