Question about camper towing
Lookin to buy a camper. Just bought my 13 f150 xlt short bed (no ecoboost) 5.0. I've looked at all the towing capacity charts and I basically just don't understand them. So I need some help.
Looking for a hitch trailer not 5th wheel (unless that's a better option) but wanting to know what weight camper I can buy and be comfortable towing?
Thanks

There is an entire section of the forum dedicated to Towing, with pretty clear discussions. Payload will be your overriding restriction. My signature has one good post you can start with.

Anything under 6000lbs dry(empty holding tanks) will be enjoyable to tow, anything over is possible physically but it will annoy the hell out of you.
I have a 5000lb. 28 foot TT and the same engines as you.

^ this. Pay attention to hitch weight. Remember, it counts against the total payload of your truck (truck, cargo, passengers, and hitch weight) if your not sure about the weight of your truck, load it with the family and the type of things you would put in the bed as cargo and go to the local scales. Also, all weights on the trailer weight sticker are for the dry weight of the trailer and that includes the hitch weight. One final thing, make sure the hitch is set to the right height for the trailer tongue. The F 150 is a joy to toe with when it is set up right.
