Purchase advice
What area do you live in? I did a quick auto trader search for 2013-14 with 4x4. Price max of 18k and I found 7 v6s and 5 v8s. 50 mile radius in metro Atlanta area.
if it’s the fx4 that’s getting you, I’d much rather get a lower trim v8 over the eco boost for the 2010-2014 models. The nice heated leather seats aren’t going anywhere if the eco boost is always in the shop.

My 1974 F100 that I bought new for less than $3400 out the door with a 240ci, inline 6 had its timing gears strip in 1996 while driving to work one morning and I had to walk to work. What the hell. Should have lasted more than 22 years.
now, it didn't having power steering/brakes or power anything but it did have an AM radio.

Perhaps you are finding my 3.5's available becuase they sell more than the V8 counterpart?
I don't know the sales numbers but makes sense, logically.
Also, just because there are 3.5's out and about doesn't mean that truck wasn't traded for another 3.5. Traders may want new year.
I'm not sure how I feel about a person looking to 'budget buy' a comfortable vehicle with 235,000 miles on it that too only 5 years to accumulate.
The seller has definitely marked down due to miles at least.
That cheap vehicle seems prone to requiring a lot of maintenance items. You can make any vehicle look clean.

Haha yeah I wouldn't toss $17k at a truck with 285,000 miles haha
Back when I was looking for trucks towards the end of 2016 I ran into the same issue. 2015/16's were out of my budget, and I HATE the look of the fake wood trim in the Lariats. Having dual climate control was a "need" for this truck, and I prefer colored bumpers over chrome, which put me in an FX4. Every FX4 I looked at had the 3.5eb, at the time I only saw a couple 5.0's within 3 hours of me, and they were all much higher mileage than I was wanting.
So I went with the 3.5. It had 33k miles at the time, I'm at 90k right now and it still runs great. I don't really consider that high mileage, but I'm not planning on unloading my so called "unreliable" ecoboost for anything else, my plan is to run this to 200,000 miles before I sell it.
