Angry Problem getting new rims changed out

bought a set factory FX2 rims from another forum member to replace my chromed plastic 18s. i went to have a dozen tire dealers just to have my tires dismounted, turn the white letters around, mounted and balanced on new rim. some dealers would not do it or wanted way to much. one wanted $256, another $140, so i went to Goodyear which is certified installer for tires bought off EBAY. NOT! the dealers around where i live are sticking together and not wanting to fool with this type of work without raping you on the price. finally found a dealer to do it for cash, no ticket and not responsible for damage, and yes they did scratch my rims. when i changed out my tires to 275/70/18 ATs i guess it will be about as cheap to buy new rims and tires mounted and balanced. just had to vent.

Where did you get the work done?

I take it you went to Goodyear, Firestone and South Tire in Collierville.

I have these same wheels that I bought off of ebay but mine already had factory Bridgestones mounted and balanced. I am constantly reading on here about the wheels getting scratched at the tire shops. What is the deal where these jack*****es can't do this carefully.

I had a shop gouge the hell out of my last set of rims. Sad thing was they didnt say a word to me and I found it during a walkaround.

$140 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

discount tire just did it for me for $120 which included new lug nuts (because the factory nuts won't work on most aftermarket rims)

Try to find a place that sells custom wheels around you next time if possible. NTB, Firestone, most dealers, etc., just see you as another person with factory wheels. I used to install wheels and tires awhile back and treated factory wheels the same as custom wheels. I feel your pain, most people don't care anymore and are only about making the all mighty dollar.

$15 per tire for a mount/balance at my local Discount. Do it every fall & spring for winter tires on the girlfriend's mustang, and it's always $60 total.
