Default Poor Radio Reception

I have a 2010 F150 SCREW and I lose Sirius reception at any 4 lane overpass. I also park in a parking garage at work during the day. When I leave the garage, there are times that it takes several minutes for my signal to reconnect. Usually, I'll turn the radio off/on to get it to reset.

Is this normal? The dealership looked at it and said the "10 second delay" was working properly - basically nothing they could do.

Any suggestions?

Sirius requires a LOS (line of sight) to the satellite so the overpass is completely normal, the parking deck requiring "several minutes" when leaving seems a bit much. You may want to actually time it and see if it's a case where 10 seconds just FEELS like several minutes.

The 10 second delay is mainly for going under overpasses. As far as coming out of the garage, it does seam a little extreme. There are times that I am parked outside and it takes a little time to get a signal. All I do is turn the radio off and on, and that takes care of it.

Sirius also has ground repeater antennas, mainly designed for areas with big buildings, that bounce the signal to get it closer to the ground.

I will also say that XM for some reason handles overpasses better.

My wife drives a 2010 Suburban LTZ. The only time we lose XM signal is when we're in the bottom of a large parking garage. My old 2004 burb with XM was the same way - a very good signal all of the time.

Thanks for the responses - I really like my F150, but this has been the single largest dissatisfier.

My 05 GMC Sierra rarely lost XM signal, I have noticed the Ford tends to lose it regularly.

I've always had problems with Sirius reception on vehicles. I've had it factory on a Caliber, aftermarket on a Mountaineer, and factory on my F150. Basically I lose signal if I drive under an overpass (even 1/2 lanes), drive under a gas station overhang, drive into my garage or a parking garage. Heck, sometimes I even lose it when I drive under a road sign that spans across the road. Usually though it picks up within a few seconds after driving out from under cover.

Satellite radio is line-of-sight. Just about anything that get's in the way will block the minuscule signal from the satellites.

If you get unbroken reception on the open road, then I'd say everything is okay.
