Plastidip the quick and easy way to black things out
#2381
I think that looks pretty sweet! Nice job! Is your interior tan, or black? I have a lariat and have always loved the look of the fx4 package; I've thought of an external swap, but it could only be external as my interior would take WAY too much work to do!

I wanted an FX4 but the wife wanted this one. So now I've spent countless hours and money trying to alter the appearance, lol.

How is the plasti dip on the exhaust holding up?

So far, so good. I did about 6-7 coats and let it dry overnight.
No visible imperfections to this point. The hard part is getting it mounted without scratching off the plasti dip.

I suppose, both. I was referring to how it came stock? I've seen a few lariats with the black 'leather' and dark grey panels and doors vs. mine with the dark brown and tan seats and I think it's a bit easier to do the conversion on one of those.

Had a project idea today. The skull caps on my trailer tow mirrors have the standard matte black finish. I was thinking of PD'ing the caps with a couple coats of Anthracite True Metallic (the closest PD to Sterling Grey Metallic, no?) and then one coat of glossifier.
I have a couple questions though. I have never used the glossifier before. If need be will the PD still be able to be peeled off after using the glossifier? How does the glossifier hold up in the car wash? In the winter I often use the brush to get salt and sand residue off and am worried the glossifier wouldn't be able to handle the brush.

The Glossifier is just like PD itself. It will peel normally if needed. However, don't use any kind of normal paint clear coat over PD. It will look fine but make the PD brittle when you want to remove it and it will not peel off like normal, but break off in little pieces.
Now the Glossifier is a lot thinner than PD itself. Do the first coat very light, then the next coats should be very heavy to the point just before it runs. It's a fine line to get it right I hear.
Unfortunately I did not find this out until after I did my wheels and they are not as glossy as I hoped. More satin finish.
Also, after it's all dried, expect the finish to feel tacky like it's not dry. You can fix this by putting on some quality quick spray wax.
Yes, it will handle a brush, high pressure spray, just about anything you do to it but certain chemicals so be careful what you apply to it. PD is pretty tough stuff.
