PCV location
Greetings All:
Having an incredible time locating the PCV valve on my 2010 F150 4.6l 24v engine. The hose has a sticker on it with an arrow pointing towards the apparent location. Inside the arrow it says "TO PCV VALVE" so I felt assured I was in the right location. After removing the hose I was left with a metal pipe which I thought was the PCV valve. In the past those valves had always been plastic. Well after trying to turn it left for the quarter turn required the metal started to deform. So I removed the valve cover and decided to work on it it from the inside. To my surprise the connection on the inside was a pipe leading into a metal plate (about 12" long by 3" wide) molded into the top of the valve cover. I read on another question feed that some valve covers have the PCV valves basically welded on the inside top of the valve cover. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. At this point I'm to the belief there is no replaceable PCV valve. The strange thing is they sell them. Lastly, after twisting off the pipe where the hose attaches there was not a free "ball" which is normally in a regular PCV valve. Cheers.

Well after everything else failed I went to the Ford dealership and found out that there is not a regular PVC valve on my 4.6l engine. The particular pecularity on this was my engine code in the VIN is an "8" versus the "W." The PCV device is built into the top of the valve cover (driver side) and is not removeable. The ony option is to buy the entire valve cover. I opted to ultrasound the valve cover while soaking in a mixture of ethanol free gas & brake cleaner for about 2 hours. The opening and closing of the valves (which cannot be accessed or seen) started functioning properly. Truck has 208,800 miles. It was needed.
