Default Painted tow mirror caps

Does anyone know if you can buy these directly from the factory or do you have to ptm the ones I already have on my truck? My concern with that is the all black ones have a slight texture to them. Please post pics if you've done this.

I checked with ford on that and was told could get chrome caps or black and paint to match. I wanted blue flame caps but after looked into it, was more money then I wanted to spend on such a minor mod

This says tow mirrors, but looks like regular mirrors. Still worth a look and a question to the seller, if you can swallow the price...

paint some chrome ones or tear yours off and paint those.. no need to spend money on new ones from the factory

I agree there. That price is so over inflated for a 35 cent piece of plastic and 1.50 worth of paint.. Tape em off and use a rattle can to color match them yourself. You can get a factory match from forhttp://www.automotivetouchup.com/ for a few bucks.

I use a lot of AutomotiveTouchUp Paint and it's really nice to work with...and very accurate.

On another note, are the mirror caps easy to take off?

Relatively..On the TT mirrors you have to pop off the mirrors glass (easy to do) and work each tab on the mirror cap to remove it.

I painted mine with DC universal black..Worked OK but not entirely happy with the turnout. I'll probably drop them off at a paint shop sometime and have them done in deep gloss black properly.

I had the stock mirror caps color-match painted on my 2010 XLT. The textured finish was sanded smooth.

Ok, I feel like an idiot now...

I broke my black ones off with a flat head screwdriver when I bought the chrome ones

Not wanting to fiddle with the glass, I actually just put the finest screwdriver I had under the cover and popped it off. I broke 1 side of the 4 clips on each. I sanded em, painted em, expoxied the broken side of the clip back in place and snapped it back in. it holds as good as new and it was less risky in my opinion.
