Default Our EcoBoost kicked some SERIOUS rear today!!!

We towed our 29 foot TT today, and all loaded up for our long vacation, I expect it weighs over 7,000 pounds. We towed from Silt, Colorado to Fort Collins, Colorado through Denver. Doing this, you cross the continental divide at 10,500 feet, and another pass at near the same height. The grades for both are the steepest I've seen in a long time -- probably 7 to 8 percent for miles.
I have rarely been below 4th gear, doing 65 mph at 2,900 rpm on any other grade I've ever towed up. Due to the altitude and the grade, we were in 3rd gear at 3,500 rpm and 60 mph.......working hard NOT TO ACCELERATE UP THE GRADES!!!!!
There were many other Tundras, Rams, and Silverados towing trailers and fifth wheels, and none of them could maintain my speed up the grades......not a single one. You gotta love the EB for towing, especially at high altitude!
A couple of times, I rolled the passenger window down just to listen to the high rpm's the other brands were turning.....easily 2nd gear at near redline.....pitiful sounding compared to the quiet and composed EB.
OK.....and here is the unbelievable part of today's experience....I still averaged over 10.5 mpg.

it's an amazing engine. i feel like, for whatever reason, it performs even better when towing!

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago with my 11 EB with 3.31 gears. It was a joy to drive towing past every GM and Ram like they were standing still.

Yep. Even the 5.0 and 6.2 would fall behind the Eco on that trip...

Well, to be fair (and not to start another "mine is better than yours" thread)......any naturally aspirated engine is going to be down serious HP and torque at that kind of altitude.
Dual turbos really help make up the deficit though!!

I have a 3.55, wish I could have gotten a 3.73.
Wonder how well the 3.55 would do? My calculations tell me that it should tow about the same due to the torque curve on the Eco, but my mechanical engineering background is coughing "Buushhhit"

Well, the percentage difference between the two gears is:

.95174262734584%

Or......not much.
