Ordering new: What is the best spec for economy?

Honestly nolag, if you are looking for economy I will agree with others and DON'T GET A TRUCK!! If you have your "hauler" then get some fun to drive fast car maybe? Ford mustang? I would recommend Pontiac, but they are gone now LOL!! Chevy camaro? If I could have a truck to haul, and a daily driver as well, it wouldn't be a truck at all. Then again, you do live WAY up north as I am assuming A.B. is Alberta? In that case, a car probably isn't practical ANY time of the year LOL!! Then again, I will admit, I am very ignorant to what your climate is generally like up there? I can just assume that it is cold, the winters are longer, and it doesn't get as warm as it was back in Texas LOL!! Seems to be rather safe assumptions?

Seriously, why do you need another truck? If you need 4x4 get something AWD that will be more fun in the snow anyways, Subaru? For that # of KM's a car or new CUV could put up economy numbers a truck can't touch and sticker for less than a truck...

Well, with all the criticism aside. If you feel you really need another truck in a Screw. I would suggest the 5.0 with either 3.55 ELD/3.73 ELD in 4x4 with a 5.5' bed. I know you want economy, but you're just not going to get it in a truck. I feel the 3.7 would be good for a 2wd regular cab. I think you would be disappointed in the 3.7 in a Screw after driving the 3.5 eco.
I would try to stay away from the 6.5' bed in the screw. I've seen alot of posts complaining about the trans bump when coming to a stop, and shuddering on take off. I think it might be due to Ford not able to figure out the proper drive line angles for the 2 piece drive shaft.
My Screw 5.0 4x4 with 3.73 ELD has consistently gotten 20-21mpg on the hwy, and 18mpg mixed.
Good luck in your search.

Sold my 2011 Ecoboost, getting lots of flack from a few on here for driving a 2006 Chev Diesel, but it wil serve the purpose for now.
I like some of the option changes for 2012, and would like to give Ford another shot. What are the recommendations for a Crewcab 4wd for a daily driver - lots of km in a year (out 28000km on in 6 months). Will tow on occassion, but will have access to the older diesel if I need to tow anything substantial.
Which engine and rear axle ratio will give the best economy/performance combination? Any other options to have or avoid?
My Ecoboost with 3.73 did not work for economy. Your suggestions?

Heck I would get a 315s like I had in my 09 5.4 because I got darn decent MPG with that set up and it was rated at towing 8k plus lbs. I bet the Ecoboost with those gears and a light foot would get the MPGs your looking for...

if you need 4x4 and mpg, just get a hybrid escape. why a 2nd truck?
