Page 47: MEMORY PRESETS (0–9): There
are 30 available presets, 10 each for
SAT1, SAT2 and SAT3. To save
satellite channels in your memory presets, tune to the desired channel
then press and hold a memory preset number (0–9) until sound returns.

Ok, if I recall correctly you need to go to the satellite screen on the nav unit. Tune to the station you want and press the channel icon on the touch display for the preset you want. You can either do it with the radio buttons or on the nav screen.
If you need further info you can pm me and I will go through my configuration to verify what I said.

Edit to add: While listening to SIRIUS press the voice command button on the steering wheel. When prompted you may say any of the following commands.

Store preset <1-6> (1 through 6 being the preset number)
If you have the Sync manual you will find all this information on pages 46 and 47. That is the Sync manual not the owners manual.

It's in the manual for the Sync, you set the just as you do the FM/AM stations. You get 3 banks, select Sat 1, tune to station and press and hold the desired preset button (1-6)

thanks to both of you
I have tried that and the preset icons do not light up...so now i am thinking the unit may have an issue that ford will need to resolve.
I knew it couldn't be this hard to do.
i was born at night, but not last night,
practically memorized the book to no avail
thanks again,
its probably a software issue

update
its fixed.....wow it wasn't operator after all
a quick trip and a battery disconnect and fords magical computer. the buttons on the screen illuminated and now i can change the presets
and yes this truck was built on a friday,
