Had mine changed 7000 miles ago, oil life meter shows 34% life remaining. I'm going to wait until it tells me to this time. Previously I had done it at 5k-6.5k intervals.

I know the factory recommends 10,000 miles between changes, but I change mine between 5000 & 6000 miles, using Castrol EDGE 20W50 full synthetic.

A 5qt jug is $27.75, a FL-500s filter is about $6, so using a jug and a half of oil and a filter every 5000 miles is worth it to me. If I was paying a shop $100 for a synthetic oil change I might feel differently.

I've always changed the 'break-in' oil early too - force of habit I guess.

(And it really bugs me that the transmission fluid doesn't have a dipstick, and it never requires changing, but I'm getting used to the idea. Now that my truck has 37k on it, I keep thinking I should have it changed at 40k like the old days)

I typically get my oil changed at 6K/6 months, simply because I also have the tires rotated. My local dealership has a "works" special that is pretty cheap. I get the tires rotated, oil changed, belts checked, etc all at once. In the end, I probably spend about the same money (and less time) by having it all done at the same time vs having the tires rotated at 6K & the oil changed when the monitor tells me to.

My last set of factory tires lasted me about double what the dealership typically sees since I rotated them regularly.

20w 50 is way to heavy. I dont know what engine you have but unles its antique ford recomends 5w20 or with the EB 5w30 because the thicker oil does not spray through the piston cooler jets on the new engines and its much slower to get to the top on start up. in this case thiner is better

Should the 1st. change be done early? They don't use a break in oil anymore, do they?

Nope...Some on here believe you have to but Ford says it isn't necessary.

They dont use break in oil but when the engine is " breaking in" there are more than normal amounts of wear partical and other debris that is left over from the machining process so as personal preferance I do my first change at 2 to 3 k its not required by Ford I feel its cheap insurance

The dip stistick is on the transmission, right hand side near the front.

Bringing this back up.

Just got my oil analysis back from Blackstone. So far so good. This is with Motorcraft Full Synthetic in a 2014 F150 5.0 near 100k miles. I've only been on the full since 75k, with it being synthetic blend before that. I wanted to see how my motor has done with just following the oil change minder on the dash and it seems to be doing me fine.

I've considered changing to something other than Motorcraft, but so long as it keeps working well, then I'll keep using it.

FYI, I don't tow/haul anything, nor am I a lead foot. I like playing the MPG game with the dash computer, but I do about 70/30 city/highway driving.

You used 5w30? Ecoboost engine?

Despite their comment of the viscosity not really hurting it, it *is* based on averages off all the engines and the spec is way sheered down into a 5w20 range, near the bottom of the range too.
