Pull over at truck stop and find oil all over the back of the car and underneath!

Stayed the night and the next day a mechanic found that the gasket was torn do to the same issue! Leaked most of the oil out. He changed it out and said he couldn't guarantee there was no damage.

Started on our way and about a half hour in it threw a rod and piston through the block!

If I had been parking in my Morton Building on rock I may not have caught this but I did since we put the Mustang in storage and I was in the garage with the truck it was easy to see oil on garage floor. It was getting more and more leak each day if I did not catch this in a week or two I could have been out of oil and major damage. I would be looking at thousands in expense and would have to sue to recover damages.

I am thankful it worked out before it got bad!

This was a Saturn back when they had awesome customer service. Had it towed to the local dealership, the GM had a rental waiting and said to give him all the receipts and enjoy our trip. We came back through in 7 days with a new motor installed!

He even contacted the lube shop and got them to pay up. We received a $10,000 check a few weeks later that we forwarded to the dealer!

Do you do your own? Or go to Ford dealer?

WOW! That is a good story on how they took care of you. I thought it would be a huge fight to get that done.

Yep, we were young kids and it was my wife's first brand new car!

They were great and it's a shame they went under, best service I've ever had from a dealer.

I will not go back to "jiffy lube", "Quick Lube", or whatever they may call themselves. You don't have to know anything about a car or be a mechanic to work at these places and change oil in peoples cars. The "didn't take the old gasket off" and "stripped the threads on the oil plug" or "the oil plug fell out" is a common thread among those who have had a bad experience with these places.
I change my own oil, and I clean the tray underneath after every time. While it was in warranty I let the stealership do it, but with my oil. After the warranty ran out, I did too. Right to my own driveway. If you don't have the time to change it your self, take it to the stealership.

Yep, haven't been back to one and it been almost 20 years!

When my plan runs out I'll do my own.

I used to do all that stuff change own oil, replace brakes, etc. but totally got tired of doing it. That was back when we had no money and I did it out of financial need. I now have some money and hate to mess with it. I do plan on using Ford dealership for the F150 going forward.

Reply Nothing the place that changed your oil did not clean the tray up after changing oil. I stated really so the truck is not leaking any where? Reply was no; no leaks. I said this cannot be true because I have checked the oil every day for a week and it dropped half a quart. So get the truck back in and find out where oil is leaking. He said they would look again.

4 hours later I have not heard a word. I call and talk to them and after several drives and a steam clean they think it leaking around filter. He said they stuck a phone in by the filter and took picture; the picture showed something sticking out around the oil filter. They change oil filter and the rubber gasket from the old oil filter was sticking out of the new one and would not seal and was leaking. The longer I drove it the more it was leaking.

So I'm pissed; I had been back to the oil change place twice for them to check. I have not had chance to stop and talk to manager yet but I plan to stop and let them know what happened.

I know people this has happened to also. I have been changing the oil on our vehicles for as long as I can remember. It seems there are to many people who take no pride in their work anymore. They don't clean up the oil that spills on the vehicle, then its on the garage floor the next day and you wonder what's wrong. That's why I thought maybe your filter was loose when you posted. If you had no problems when you went in for maintenance, and then have problems after, well, 9 times out 10, something was does done wrong or got damaged in the process. Even at 60, if its something I can do, I will.
