Default OEM key not working

My OEM key fob stopped working the other day when I was at work. I was lucky enough to have a coworker drive me home to get my spare so I could start my truck.

none of the buttons on the remote work and I have changed the battery. when I try to start the truck the dash screen indicates there is a "security system fault" or something along those words.

I'm under warranty still so I'll probably just stop in to the dealer and get them to diagnose or replace the fob.

kind of ridiculous to have an actual key as part of the fob, but not be able to start the truck.

its possible you need a new key fob if replacing the battery didn't solve the problem, as far as the truck not starting with the key is because the security system was set when you exited the truck and locked the doors. your working key fob disarmed the system allowing the truck to crank and start, technically at this point your non working key fob should at least start the truck.

Good idea, elkymutt; I know they'll be happy to help. What's your truck's model year and mileage? I'm here if you need any assistance after your trip to the dealership.
