Default OEM HID Projector Question/Problem

Hey guys, I installed the OEM HIDs in my 2010 about 6 months ago. I used the morimoto conversion harness for the install. I noticed an issue the other day and now I can't figure out what the deal is since I'm not very familliar with these types of headlights. When I power up the lights, everything works fine in low beam. When I switch to high beam, everything looks and sounds fine as well. The problem is when I switch from high to low beam, the shield on the projector initally seems to be stuck and they do not change back to low beam. If I toggle the switch back and forth from low to high about 20 or so times, then the shield will finally begin to slowly come down. After a while, they eventually function normally. This is happening in both headlights at the same time. I'm curious if this is a wiring issue, a relay issue, or a problem with the actual headlights themselves. It has been pretty cold here in PA lately, and maybe they just need time to "warm up". I have no clue. I'm not sure if this is a common problem, or if anyone has the same experience. I feel bad for the oncoming traffic, and I feel like I'm high-beaming everyone until the lights eventually begin the work properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If both are doing it at the same time in both sides then it may be the relay in the harness. Might want to get another harness or relay. Also make sure you use dielectric grease on all connections as corrosion can creep in and mess things up.

I concur...both at the same time = likely an issue with the Morimoto control harness. For about $100 it's an easy fix. Actually since it's most likely just the relay you could buy one of the less expensive options (like the H13 to 9008) harness and just swap the relays. That would be a $35 investment, but the harness would be worthless to you.

You may be able to just pick up relay.

Thanks for the help guys. The funny thing is, I actually have like 2 or 3 spare relays laying around from other projects. I will swap one out and let you know how it goes. Thanks again!

Update: I was finally able to look into this problem further today. It appears that this is only happening to the passenger side headlight, not the driver's side. I switched out the relay and there was no change. I included a link to a video I recorded after changing the relay. Let me know what you guys think. I'm afraid I may have to purchase a new headlight :/

Your shutter is definitely sticking or binding on something so you'll have to open them up. Not sure if you can buy separate replacement parts but if you talk to some of the retrofitters on here they might even have parts lying around and some good advice. Good luck with the fix.

I wonder if there's a spring in there that could be broken or something, the shutter on that pass light is definitely the problem.

Hi.

Here's the actual projector assembly in excruciating detail:

Before blaming the cutoff shield itself, it's prudent to test it standalone.

Acquire a fused 12vdc source and a test pigtail or alligator tips. Exercise the shield itself several times until you either induce a failure or nothing is found. That'll determine if you need to bake the light open to repair the projector, or look upstream at the wiring... including the MFS.
