I'm interested in adding some bed lighting to my 2012 and really like the OEM setup on the newer trucks. The 2015 and up trucks have the option for bed lights from the factory, but nothing was optioned for the 09-14 gen. Has anyone adapted an OEM style kit to their 09-14 F150? Any recommendations? I found this kit that looks to be mostly plug and play from an electrical standpoint. I know I'll have to do some cutting to fit the switch housing and lights, but I'm more mechanically inclined than electrical, so I'm not worried about that part.
From the looks of the kit that you posted the wiring is pretty much all aftermarket and doesn’t tie into the OEM harness in anyway which is good for you as you just need to connect it to the battery. Only thing I would stress over is where to mount the lights in the bed. If you know the exact spot that you want the lights and that they’ll fit there as long as you’re confident in your cutting skills then you should be good to go.
I bought this kit for my 2010. I used the existing holes in the bed that are for the factory rail kit. The lights fit perfectly between the holes and give really good light. I will try and remember to grab a few pics when I get home this evening.
I ended up doing a full custom job. I couldn't find a kit that I liked, and I knew I would have to do some custom wiring anyways. I got 4 LED rock lights and a latched illuminated switch off Amazon. I got a custom stainless stee switch plate made by SendCutSend and used some stainless hardware. I think it turned out well. I now have full access to lights in the bed, even if the truck is off. And it looks somewhat factory.
