Number 7 Cylinder Misfire?
Just had my 2012 F-150 5.0 in the shop for brakes, had them run a diagnostic on the truck since I've been having some skipping issues, and they reported the number 7 cylinder was misfiring. It's very similar to the skipping/hesitation on the 5.4L 3V when the plugs or COPS were bad.
The truck has almost 74,000 miles. Is it time to replace plugs and cops? I would rather do all at once, (the dealership only wanted to replace the single COP for around $200 parts and labor )
If I do decide to do plugs and COP's I'm assuming motorcraft is the popular choice?
Thanks.

Swap the COP on #7 with the one next to it and clear the DTC's .. see if the mis-fire code follows the suspected bad COP. if not swap the plug on cylinder 7.

Yes.. but, don't buy a COP until you swap it to verify it's bad, unless you have money to burn...

You don't know if it's bad..

On my 2000 F150 when I had it, I had a COP go bad at about 110K miles. I swapped it with another and verified it was bad and replaced it. Within the next 10K miles, I had another go bad. At that time, I replaced the other 7.

That's why I would rather do them all if one of the COP's is bad....but then again, that's a lot of money right now that I don't need to spend. Decisions...decisions....
