When you guys keep talking about 18mm offset and 6mm offset, what are you referring to? The offset of what? I was always under the impression that the first numbers were width, the second number was a percentage for height of the first, and the last number is rom diameter. What is "offset"? When you are talking about an offset of 6mm which is extremely tiny for whatever it is...

I struggled with this for a while. I finally understand it now. Offset is how far the centerline of the wheel sticks out from the hub. Positive offset is pushes wheel in and negative pushes wheel out. So my new wheels should be and inch or two (not real sure) out from factory to give it a wider stance. I think factory wheels are around 30 something? So a 25 positive offset pushes the tire out just a hair. The smaller you get the wider the stance. Make sense?

Interesting. Wouldn't the offset be affected by the first number, width, of the tire mainly on a particular rim?

The wheel itself has an offset, or basically how deep of a bowl does the wheel have. 0 offset and generally the lug nuts sit at the centerline of the wheel. The wheel has a width which does affect how wide the tire (sidewall really) appears or how wide a tire can be mounted, but where that tire sits according to the truck is determined by the offset of the mounted wheel. Positive offset and it pushes the wheel towards the frame, negative and brings the wheel out to where they stick outside the wheel wells. The tire is always the same width depending on the tire size, just depends on how close it is to the frame based on wheel offset.

The pic above of my truck, those wheels are -12 offset, they stick out about 2" past the fender, the stock wheels were +44 The more negative you go in offset, the farther out they will stick.

I can completely understand, my nest is finally empty. So I get more $$ to spend on me and the missus.

About ¼" less than mine, so yours will be out about 1.75" past the fender edge, not a very noticeable difference comparing the two side by side.
