It is usually best to avoid overloading at the outset. The general rule of thumb is to wait until the truck has had a break-in period of about 1,500 to 3,000 kilometres before overloading. This gives the engine, transmission and other components time to adapt and perform optimally. Premature overloading puts additional stress on components that are still in the break-in period.
If you do end up overloading, make sure you give your truck some extra love after. Start by checking the basics - tyre pressure, fluids and brakes - as overloading can put extra strain on these parts.
