Ahhh..I bet the dealers are installing them on their lots so they don't lose the tailgate also maybe there are so big the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing

They have probably had tailgate theft there and taking preventative steps. Enjoy the lock and piece of mind that comes with it.

I lied. After closer inspection of the pic mine is the one with the six foot cable meant to lock items into the bed of the truck. Factory option made by master lock.

It's not the tailgate lock as shown.

I just picked up a new 2014 FX4 Tuesday. Dealer told me the extra key was for the spare tire. Figuring I would hopefully never need it, I just put in the glove box. Took the truck to get a line-x sprayed in yesterday and the first thing he asked me was do I have the key for the tailgate lock. Huh ? So I grabbed the key from the glove box and sure enough that was it. You would think a salesguy would at least know that, wouldn't you ?

Could've been put on by ford during transit and forgotten. There's an old drive in near the ford plant here. They will fill it up with a thousand super duties every now and then. I'm guessing it's an overflow lot of sorts. It's in a rough part of town, so I could see them putting these on.

Ya, I did the upside down hose clamp for years when I first heard of this idea. Stepped it up to the Mcgard brand, on the new truck.
