Is it correct that I can still tow as is, but that the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL makes it safer by using trailer brakes?

It IS required to get it flashed? I have a base truck I guess with no dash screen, will it sill shw under the "Trip, mileage, etc" window?

Do I still need to add the wire/plug that came with the truck (plastic bag) under he hood?

Thx
If your trailer has brakes you will need a brake controller for them. Most trailers bigger than a small utility trailer will have brakes. If you buy the OEM TBC you must get it flashed. There are many aftermarket brake controllers that you could add that dont require flashing the computer. You can get a pretty nice one for $150-200

your referring to this bundle of goodies in the pic...the cable/wires is an adapter to hook up a aftermarket brake controller to the factory plug in the dash.. the oem controller will use the factory plug in the dash.. the fuse and relay are for the charging pins on the 7 pin plug at the back..

were I live any trailer over 3500lbs needs brakes, yes it makes for a safer towing experience as long as the trailer brakes work as designed- not rusted/seized up..

You should really get the dealer to put in the TBC when you purchase the truck. I bought mine with the tow package but no TBC. We hammered out the deal, near the end I told them I wanted the TBC put in at no charge as part of the deal, or we could not proceed. They put in rather then see me leave and lose the sale, and the deal numbers didn't change...I think most dealers would do that.

My last truck was a F350 SD, managed a Rhino spray-in liner with that one, no extra cost....

Thx for the info, I guess the TBC is on long list of must have Mods....will order and install OEM per vid and check with dealer on flash....

"the fuse and relay are for the charging pins on the 7 pin plug at the back"...so even with the OEM version this still needs to happen?

The fuse and relay are separate from the wiring harness. You use the fuse and relay if your trailer has a battery and you want the truck to charge it. Has nothing to do with the brake controller
