Default My new addition

Just bought a new 2014 2wd supercab STX 5.0 with a 355 limited slip. Have owned many Fords from 1977 to 1998 models. This truck feels like a F250. I love the truck. Already ordered a chrome box, a bed mat, bug shield and in-channel vent visors. Now that the necessities are covered what do bloggers recommend to improve mileage and performance. I plan on purchasing a 24' to 26' travel trailer in the spring of 2015. I assume a leveling kit will be needed. It has the tow pkg but did not come with brake controller. Does the factory anti-sway do much for a trailer. I also am not a financial fan of synthetic oil. I have not read the owners manual yet but I plan on using motorcraft synthetic blend and change every 4000 miles. That oil has performed well and clean in my previous vehicles. I always used Fram filters. Any pro or con advice you can share. This post is not very specific but just proud to have another new F150 in the driveway.

STAY AWAY from fram filters!! I cannot stress this enough. They are hands down the worst filter on the market. I always recommend using a motorcraft filter and motorcraft oil if one does not want to opt for a full synthetic oil. A custom tune will give you the best bang for the buck when it comes to performance and mileage. Post up some pics of the new ride.

Ditch the fram filters and use motocraft or napa gold.

If you are changing your oil that often, then the synthetic blend will do you just fine......but, I think that if you do some research on Fram filters, you will find that the amount of actual filtering material inside is just about the lowest there is.
WIX gold (NAPA stocks them) is a far superior filter.
Congrats on the new truck too!

Throw that fram filter in the trash, the filers are so horrible they can actually void your warranty.

The Fram Ultra filters are actually pretty good and are the only fram I'd consider running, but you can't go wrong with motorcraft and if I were you that's what I would use.

Look up a website called "Bob is the oil guy".... I am serious.
All you ever wanted to know about oil and filters. With pictures too!
Here is my theory on oil change intervals - The computer algorithms that decide when you should change your oil take into account many variables when they calculate your oil life percentage, engine hours, rpm's, speed, temp. etc. It is not just a timer that counts down the miles.
If you plot the oil life percentage over several oil changes the mileage will go up and down depending on your drive. 1000 miles on the interstate is much easier on the motor than 1000 miles in downtown traffic.
That being said, I am not the one paying for your truck or oil changes. Oil changes are pretty cheap insurance for long motor life and I actually rarely run mine for 100% of its life. I do use the Motorcraft synblend oil because as it turns out it is a pretty good oil.
