I did this once with a car in a mcdonalds parking lot. Saw a puddle and drive thru it. Puddle turned out to be up to the Windows. Idk how the car didn't stall or get destroyed. It was only for a second. The car never had an issue. Made alotta steam tho. I would rock on with the truck. Now it has a story behind it.

Don't worry man. I am not sure what set these guys off, its not like you brought the truck home and now are trying to sell it to a private party. You did the right thing, had it towed to a dealership, had them and the insurance people look at it and now trying to figure out what to do.

Like I said I think your fine but if your not happy and that's a big if, just trade it in for another, you might be out 5-7k. I imagine, the same dealership that has checked it out would be happy to get you to trade it in, and whatever develops with that truck, its not your problem, you have done all that you can do at this point. Happiness to me is worth more than 5-7k hit. I personally would be happy with the truck knowing what the Ford people told me but that's me.

Some years ago I had a boat and the hull cracked. Something about jumping a 4' high boat wake. Anyways, the darn thing tried to sink on Lake Michigan. I had water up to the water pump line. For a big block, that was pretty deep. Anyways, I ended up junking the boat, but pulled the motor and it's accessories for my next project. I used the starter and alternator on that boat as a means to save a bit of money. I didn't even get through the first season before they both failed. My dealer had warned me that because of the submersion they were bad, but the temptation was too great.

In your case I'm not worried about the connections as they are sealed, but I would be concerned about the starter and alternator. Not sure about the EPS and fuse block. Since you've already made the insurance claim, I'd press them to address the electrical concerns. The truck got sunk and they need to be addressing it as such.

Ive drove threw a muddy pond in my 2011 screw , water coming over the hood in all. It didnt miss a beat. Mud in the air filter, muddy water over every inch of the engine bay, it was a mess. I work in the oilfields and it's my company truck. My truck gets abused every single day. it spends 75 percent of its life offroad in mud and dusty conditions , and it has never been to the shop yet and in pushing 60,xxx miles now. I wouldnt worry about it if its running fine.

Alright it's just water. I mean seriously? Everyone is getting all worked up but what do you think happens when you drive thro a rain storm? Water gets shoved thro your radiator and drenches your engine bay and if you drive long enough, it will happen for sometimes hours! I've had muddy water up to the top of my fender wells and have been just fine. Your truck will be fine, after all it is a truck.

Father had a 2004 F150 5.4 work truck that got water over the hood when he got caught in a flash flood in a pipeline right of way. Electricals never worked right after that, but they immediately weren't working right.

If everything is still working right, you are probably still good.

UPDATE: For all those who said its just a little water and I'm overreacting:

I walked into the shop, right up to my truck to see what it really looks like torn down for myself. I asked if they had checked the ECU for water yet. The response was "Your insurance agent already did their standard (whatever number) point inspection to evaluate the vehicle. The ECU was checked already, I'm sure of it, its the first thing they check after looking for water on the air filter". I walked up to the ECU, took the cover off, and.... WATER! evidence of lots of it too. Took the harness off, water inside the connection!

The insurance company argued it's not true. Once it was definitely true, I was told that the truck runs and drives, so why am I upset? They are pegging me for a dumb kid that knows nothing about cars. They offered me a check (total) of $300… (after $500 deductible). It also marked the title with flood damage. **** FARMERS INSURANCE. After my family has had over 30 years with the same agent, we're done, they will not pay out, and they're hiding problems thinking I will overlook them. I understand they don't want to fix it, but this is ridiculous, $300? (also told me i was covered for a rental car, after a week of renting, I found out I'm not… that chrystler 300 cost me $700 to rent just for a week and the truck won't be done for another 2+)

As the tech continued to tear it down to repair what the insurance company authorized (bumper and intercooler), more water kept pouring out of places where there shouldnt be water. Such as the sensor assembly attached to the intercooler, completely full of water. The fuseblock, water. I understand that these trucks are made to be partially submerged, its why the sensitive stuff is located at the top of the engine bay with a little rubber on most of it so its water resistant. But because it was submerged, many of those seals were insufficient.

Talking to the tech, he advised me to trade it in ASAP to salvage what I can. After haggling with the sales team for a week and looking for a deal that both of us can work with, the best they could do was find an identical truck for $5000 down plus $60 more a month in payments.

Another part of the equation, one of the parts that was full of water (he didnt remember which offhand) was backordered for 3+ weeks. In the meantime I'm stranded 1500+ miles from home without a vehicle, and I need to get back, the savings is dwindling and I need to get back home to find employment (laid off a few months back)

So I looked into keeping my truck. Leave now on a train so I can make my finals, so cost of a train ticket + ~$800-$1000 after taxes and all to ship my truck home when its finished + $2000 to pay a friend with a good back to spend a few weeks of nights and weekends tearing the truck down, inspecting everything and putting it back together. I could pay less, but being an ex-tech myself who had to quit because the job took its toll on my back, I'm not one to underpay other techs for work on the side. Nevermind all the hassle of everything that I'm going to have to go through. So figure ~$3500 to be satisfied with my dream truck.

For an additional $1500 and $60 a month, I can make it all go away and go home with a truck that I know for a fact is reliable and dry. $1500 is what it costs to rent a car for 2 weeks. That made the answer very simple.

So I'm waiting on my cosigner to ship a signed document out here, then signing it myself and finally going home. I've been sleeping on a friends couch in new england (I'm from Minnesota) since February. I want to go home.

Sounds like you have got it all figured out. If the title has Flood Damage on it I would want out too.

Sounds crazy to change a trucks title over an estimated 300 dollars (Their quote) in damage.
