Module Reprogramming
My local dealer has recommended a Module Reprogramming on my 2010 Platinum. I assume it has never been done on this vehicle. Do you recommend it? Does that service improve the quality of the backup camera which I am not happy with?
Module reprogramming is upgrading/updating the on board computer. How often is that necessary? I'm unhappy at the low def quality of my camera. Yes, I've cleaned the exterior lens. I get in newer vehicles and its the quality of satellite tv.
There are LOTS of onboard computers.
Fixes for the cameras are generally replacement of the camera, or wiring. But, if it hasn't changed behavior, that may just be the quality level of a 2010. There are some aftermarket cams out there that plug into a 2010, but I have a feeling they aren't worth it. You could read some reviews on them.
I'm assuming your Platinum has the big screen and nav, if not, this is a little different. In my truck, the camera goes to the BCM computer (the fuse box), then to the APIM, then to the screen. Yours is called GEM instead of BCM. I don't have 2010 info, but assuming the camera follows the same path, these modules are the only ones related to the camera. Not even sure the GEM and APIM do much processing of the camera feed at all. So, if their updates are for one of these computers, possibly they could help you.
Personally, I'd probably be considering an aftermarket stereo upgrade (for other reasons), and a newer camera system could be added to that. This would bypass the Ford system completely. Location of the camera might be a pain.
