I had the same problem you had. I ended up taking it to my speed shop and they did it for 20 bucks well worth the headache. I had purchased the recon smoke amber lights look and work great. I would check on YouTube I believe I saw someone install set of those lights they looked okay and for the price it's great. Good luck.

Ok read through all of these posts and didn't see a clear answer, what color did you guys all use white or Amber?

I know the amber reflector will illuminate Amber but would using Amber leds behind an amber lens match the front turn signal better?

I used a 6 LED strip, amber, I picked up at AZ. Seemed to match pretty close, until I smoked the lens. Still, I'm leaving them alone, I've heard the Recons don't last very long, and these have been on the truck for over 2 years.
When I did mine, I RTVed the back of the strip, and soldered and used liquid electrical tape on the splice.

I used white. Both look fine. Amber probably would match the turn signal better.

Used leftover white from truck bed lights and it looks like a factory installed light.

Well I opted against the DRL upgrade and went blinkers only but I split the LED strips and did two 9 LED strips on both sides. I wish there was a batter way to get through the door jam. I used Amber leds.

I noticed not many people do this so one word of advise, try to trim as much of the reflector backing as you can, it will leave you just enough room for the two led rows.

Overall very happy, took 2 hours on my driver's side since I was still fine tuning my approach then the passenger side only took 30 minutes. I used butt connectors loaded with dielectric grease and shrink wrap over the top.

Sort of pissed my wife is taking my truck shopping tonight so unfortunately I won't seem the rewards of my work until later tonight.

Doing my dad's platinum tomorrow.
