Default Lubricating Tow Mirrors?

Hey folks, maybe someone can help me out. I have the tow mirrors on my FX4 09. I have to push them in each time I go through a car wash. My passenger side one moves easy, but the driverside one fights me each time. Is there an accepted way to lubricate or adjust the tension on these mirrors? Thansk

You can try to spray in some lube (WD-40 or similar) but I like mine to be tight and hard to move personally. Then again I haven't taken it to an auto carwash yet. Probably will soon since last time I froze my as s off when I washed it a week ago.

Yeah, I know...old thread, blah blah blah.

I have the same problem with my 2011 tow mirrors. They now have make a nice grinding/squeaking noise when you fold them. Yeah, I suppose I could hose them down with some "mechanic in a can" but then I'll have a nice smelly, oily mess on my mirror arms. I'm hoping that someone will chime in with a better solution.

Can't believe only 2 F150 owners on this forum have this problem.

YouTube was of no help.

Maybe rub some wax on the arms ? Can only see it with them extended.

Mine are tight on my 2010 KR as well, but I don't fold them enough to really worry about it. Silicone or WD should help, just put a rag behind it when you spray or you'll have **** everywhere.

The problem with using a lubricant is that over time it actually attracts more dirt and grim. Just like not getting all the cleaner off of your upholstery when you clean it, it gets dirtier, faster. Keep the mirrors clean. After cleaning them, make sure "Not" to use wax on the plastic parts. My trick, after cleaning, I use Turtle Wax Ice on all parts of the mirror. Slide them out and coat all the contact points of the arms. You'll need to polish the chrome caps (if you have them), but you don't need to wipe it off of the black plastic. Just don't over apply it.
