Loud Roush Exhaust Muffler swap options
Last year I installed the Roush F150 Exhaust kit on my 2012 5.0 Screw truck. I know it was listed as an off road exhaust kit. I really do like the sound, but on long trips the drone can get old. I am wanting to keep the pipes and tips out the back, but am wanting to know if anyone can recommend a 3" replacement muffler that I can install. The Roush Muffler is a straight through type. I am wanting a muffler that still sounds good but just not as loud. Thanks

did you remove the resonator? if so a friend if mine put it back on after he was tired of the droning noise and it took away some of the droning noise at cruising speed. He finds his roush system better now with the resonator back on

Look into a Magnaflow, 18" is what I have on my 2011, 5.0 no drone. The longer the quieter. Mine still has the resonator as well. I am happy with it. Wife, kids and neighbors like it too.

Yes I removed the Resonator. It has a straight 3" stainless pipe where the resonator use to be. I'll see what it takes to put it back in. I know one end has a flange but can't remember the pipe size on the outward end. Might have to adapt and weld to the 3"

the oem resonator pipe should be the same size as the roush kit, i think what he did was cut the roush section out or unbolted it and then refitted the stock resonator and then either bolted of welded it back to the roush kit, he had a shop do it

I found a post that showed installing the factory resonator back in with the bolted flange on the output side the used a 6" piece of 2.5 pipe to a 2.5x3" reducing coupler to a 10" long 3" piece of pipe to the Roush muffler. It looks like a clean way to do the install.

Does anyone know of a solution if you don't the original exhaust? I bought a used 2012 FX4 with the Roush intake and catback exhaust and the drone is too much to take. I'm trying to find a factory intake to see if that helps, but I feel like I'm still going to need to do something with the exhaust afterwards.

I have the complete factory exhaust. I also own a Roush mustang with loud exhaust. I like the awesome sound on both vehicles but, the truck exhaust tone or drone in the cab gets to you after driving it on a trip. I'm not looking for super quiet or I would put the factory stuff back on. I'm gonna try the advice from previous posts above. I'll put the factory resonator back on and see if it kills the cab noise but still keeps an aggressive exhaust sound.
